Accessibility statement
This is an accessibility statement from Netsafe New Zealand.
Accessibility statement
Netsafe is New Zealand’s independent, non-profit online safety organisation. Our mission is to keep people of all ages safe online by providing free support, advice, and education to all ages. We care about the work we do, the communities we serve and our own people. We strive to ensure that our website is accessible to everyone.
This Accessibility Statement provides details about how we have measured and ensured the accessibility of our website, any issues we are currently aware of, and how users can contact us to provide feedback.
Measure to support accessibility
We aim to keep the Netsafe website functional, responsive and accessible to all. Here are some of the specific measures we’ve taken to ensure the accessibility of our website:
- Include accessibility throughout our internal policies.
- Integrate accessibility into our procurement practices.
- Assign clear accessibility goals and responsibilities.
- Employ formal accessibility quality assurance methods.
- Contract Access Advisors(https://accessadvisors.nz/) to support us with rigorous testing and recommendations for improvement.
Accessibility conformance
To ensure that the Netsafe website is as accessible as possible, our website and its content were evaluated using the Web Content Accessibility Guidelines (WCAG)(https://www.w3.org/TR/WCAG22/) and the NZ Government Web Standards(https://www.digital.govt.nz/standards-and-guidance/nz-government-web-standards/). These define requirements for designers and developers to improve accessibility for people with disabilities.
WCAG 2.2 has three levels of conformance:Level A, Level AA, and Level AAA. Our goal is to be fully conformant with Level AA of WCAG 2.2. Fully conformant means that our content meets all criteria of the accessibility standard without any exceptions.
Current conformance status
Netsafe is working towards our target of Level AA of WCAG 2.2 compliance. Most of our site meets these criteria but there are still some known issues we are working to address. These issues are:
- The chatbot is a third-party extension and is not fully accessible.
- The Campaign & Tools tabs on the homepage do not behave as intended with a screen reader on mobile devices.
- Some images have incorrect or insufficient alt text.
- When the browser font size is set above the default size, some text is obscured by other page elements.
- When reduced motion settings are enabled some animations continue.
- On mobile devices the keyboard focus order does not match the visible order of the content on article pages.
- Some links have unclear text.
